COLQUITT, Ga. (WALB) — The City of Colquitt is remembering the life and legacy of James “Jimmy” Clark Phillips, Jr., a beloved community leader who passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at his residence.
Phillips, 65, dedicated his life to public service, education, and the arts in Colquitt. He served as both Mayor and City Councilman, later becoming Superintendent of the Miller County School System after years as a teacher. He was also known for his talents as a published author and muralist, leaving a lasting mark on the community he cherished. Phillips was a U.S. Army veteran.
According to Colquitt city officials, Phillips’ contributions made a lasting impact, and many in the community have expressed their condolences and respect, including tributes on social media.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 19, at 2:00 p.m. at Colquitt Funeral Home, with Rev. Cory Thomas and Rev. John Calhoun officiating. Burial will follow at Colquitt City Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for Friday, July 18, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Phillips is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, and extended family. The community is encouraged to continue honoring his legacy of service and kindness.
