MEIGS, Ga. (WALB) - The City of Meigs says its wastewater treatment plant has gone over pollution limits this month, resulting in what officials describe as a “through-plant sewage spill.”
According to city officials, lab testing for April showed the plant’s treated sewage contained higher-than-allowed levels of pollution. That discharge flows into Oaky Woods Creek.
The city says the issue was caused by a “plant upset” at the wastewater treatment facility and that the biological treatment process needs time to recover. Officials say crews are continuing to monitor both the plant’s discharge and water conditions in Oaky Woods Creek.
