COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A Coffee County jail officer has been arrested after he reportedly released an inmate from her cell to perform a sexual act and delivered contraband to her.

Herman Rashad Wallace, 28, has been charged with a felony for giving prohibited items to inmates.

According to the incident report, investigators reviewed video footage that reportedly showed Wallace letting a female inmate out of her cell to perform a sexual act in front of him.

Investigators received additional information that the the jail officer had also delivered Black and Milds to the inmate.

On Monday, April 28, Wallace was asked to report to the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, and he obliged.

At the sheriff’s office, Wallace was interviewed by investigators. During the interview, Wallace reportedly admitted to allowing the inmate out of her cell and delivering the tobacco products to her.

Following the incident, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement.

The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office holds all of its employees — including those at the Pre-Trial Detention Center — to the highest standards of conduct and professionalism. We have a responsibility to the citizens of Coffee County to ensure integrity, accountability, and trust in every aspect of our operations.

The recent actions of former employee Herman Wallace, which resulted in his termination and arrest, are deeply troubling and completely unacceptable. This type of behavior is a clear violation of our values and the public trust.

In addition, Sheriff Fred Cole stated, “Let me be clear: We do not tolerate misconduct or the disregard of our standards under any circumstances.”

The sheriff’s office plans to continue their investigations to ensure that “any individual who compromises the safety, security, or integrity of our facilities is held accountable.”
