Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A community car wash raised money for the family of a former Albany Fire Department captain who died recently at age 56.
Michael Russell Lane, known as “Rusty” to family and friends, was a former captain with the Albany Fire Department. Gieryic’s Automotive hosted the fundraising car wash with all proceeds going to the Lane family.
Albany Firefighter Agnieszka Rudz organized the event. She said the timing during the holiday season made the community support especially meaningful for the grieving family.
“I feel like we should help the family because they are already dealing with a lot of stress you know the father and the husband passing, so I just wanted to help them out a little bit,” Rudz said. “Oh, it feels amazing, it feels absolutely amazing that we have so many people that come here and support that makes my heart happy.”
People who did not get car washes still stopped to leave donations for the Lane family.
