ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - After we saw some rainfall Saturday, a much drier air mass has infiltrated South Georgia for the rest of the holiday weekend and just in time for the first day of meteorological fall today. An east-northeasterly breeze is bringing noticeably drier air into the area and keeping hot temperatures at bay at least temporarily. Highs today will struggle to get out of the low to mid 80s, with temperatures warming just a couple of degrees tomorrow into the middle of the week.

The biggest taste of the “faux fall” air mass will be tonight and tomorrow morning, however, as all of South Georgia will see lows below the 65 degree mark. North and west of Albany, some isolated sheltered locations may see the temperature briefly dip into the upper 50s before sunrise! While the cooler weather isn’t unheard of for the beginning of September, it won’t last long as the 90s will return for high temperatures by midweek.

As far as rain chances are concerned, we will only see one shot of rainfall this week as scattered showers and thunderstorms will be around Wednesday and on a more isolated basis on Thursday. Drier air returns for this coming weekend, but temperatures will be warmer with widespread low to mid 90s for highs for the first full weekend of September.
