COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — The legal battle in the high-profile Vann Brown case continues as Jason Anderson’s defense team files an amended motion for a new trial.
Anderson, convicted in February 2025 of felony murder, aggravated assault, and making false statements in connection to Brown’s January 1, 2020 death, is now seeking to overturn his life sentence. Defense attorney Brian Steel filed the latest motion on July 8, 2025—a 35-page filing expanding on previous motions with claims of ineffective counsel, jury misconduct, and newly detailed case facts.
According to Douglas Now, this latest development follows a series of filings by Steel, including a juror’s affidavit alleging coercion during deliberations and concerns over out-of-trial information affecting the verdict. Anderson remains the only defendant convicted of murder in the case. His brother, Justin Anderson, and co-defendant Jeffery Harper were previously acquitted of murder charges.
