VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) — A domestic dispute call at a grocery store led to the arrest of a man wanted in North Carolina for attempted first-degree murder.
Joshua Walter Vashawn Bellamy, 27, was arrested Dec. 12 after Valdosta Police officers responded to a dispute in the parking lot of a grocery store in the 1400 block of North Lee Street at 3 p.m.
Citizens called E911 to report the altercation between Bellamy and a female.
During the investigation, Bellamy was reportedly evasive and provided officers with a false name and date of birth. Officers took him into custody without incident after determining he had given them false information.
Further investigation revealed Bellamy had an active arrest warrant from the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina for attempted first-degree murder. After officers confirmed the warrant was still active, Bellamy was taken to the Lowndes County Jail.
Bellamy received additional charges for fugitive from justice, a felony and giving false information to law enforcement officers, a misdemeanor.
“I am proud of our officers who encountered an individual who attempted to conceal his identity by providing false information,” said Chief Leslie Manahan. “Their persistence and diligence led to the positive identification and arrest of a suspect wanted for a violent crime in another state, who thought he could hide in our community.”
