DOUGLAS, Ga. (WALB) - A response to an animal complaint led Douglas police to arrest a man on an outstanding felony warrant earlier this month.

According to the Douglas Police Department, officers responded around 12:20 p.m. on July 2 to a business in the 1200 block of South Madison Avenue after receiving a report about an animal complaint.

While searching for the dog involved in the original call, an officer saw a man place a child into a child safety seat, yell at the child, and shake the seat, police said.

Officers made contact with the man, who identified himself and cooperated with the investigation. A records check revealed he was wanted on an active felony warrant for terroristic threats issued by another Georgia county, according to police.

The man left the immediate area before officers located him nearby a short time later. He was taken into custody without incident on the outstanding warrant.

The Douglas Police Department commended the officers involved, saying their quick response and professionalism helped bring the situation to a safe resolution.

The identity of the suspect has not been released.

As with all criminal cases, the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
