WILCOX COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — A woman from Statesboro was arrested after deputies say a drone was caught trying to smuggle drugs into a state prison.

The Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office responded to an area near Owensboro Road and found a drone and three packages on the ground.

Deputies reported about 15 and a half pounds of marijuana, nearly 17 pounds of meth, and other contraband inside that they believe was headed for Wilcox State Prison.

The woman is facing nine felony charges and one misdemeanor, including using an unmanned aircraft, trafficking drugs, conspiracy, and weapons possession.

Investigators say this case is still active and more arrests or charges could come.
