(Gray News) - FDA officials are in Mexico inspecting the Taylor Farms facility linked to a multistate outbreak of cyclosporiasis.
The outbreak has been tied to iceberg lettuce sold at restaurants, most prominently at Taco Bell, and some grocery stores, including Walmart.
Nearly 25,000 confirmed or suspected cases of cyclosporiasis have been reported in 47 states, according to the CDC. There have been 740 hospitalizations and two reported deaths.
FDA officials had linked the outbreak to a Taylor Farms facility in the Mexican state of Guanajuato. According to a CBS News report, the FDA had not inspected the facility in seven years.
Taylor Farms initiated a recall of the iceberg lettuce sourced from the facility on July 17. The FDA said it believes that all recalled lettuce tied to the outbreak is now off the market.
