BACONTON, Ga. (WALB) — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is looking into a deadly shooting in Baconton that left one man dead and another injured on Wednesday, July 8.
Ronald Hyson, 23, of McDonough, was killed. A 22-year-old man was also wounded in the shooting.
How the shooting unfolded
Mitchell County deputies received a 911 hangup call around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday from the School Avenue area of Baconton, officials said. Deputies reportedly responded but were unable to locate anyone. About 15 minutes later, they were called to a local hospital, where two men had arrived with gunshot wounds.
Hyson was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the GBI. The second man is listed in stable condition.
Investigation ongoing
Hyson’s body will be transported to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
GBI agents said the case is active and ongoing. Once the investigation is complete, the file will be turned over to the South Georgia Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
