Description

DOUGLAS, Ga. (WALB) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting at Bear Creek Mobile Home Park in Douglas, according to the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).

The sheriff’s office said the shooting incident happened in the early morning hours of Sunday, Sept. 28. The incident involved deputies from the CCSO and officers from the Douglas Police Department.

A witness spoke to WALB and recounted what he says happened.

“After the sheriff checked on everybody in the house, they made us all go out to the road, and said that the house was a crime scene. And our next-door neighbors were outside, as well. And they told us that the guy set his house on fire and then was threatened to kill himself in the middle of the road in front of their house. And they were talking to him, telling him not to do it. And then he ran onto our porch and tried to get in our house, and that’s when the police shot him,” the witness said.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation was turned over to the GBI.

WALB will provide more details once they become available. Stay with us.
