ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The Georgia secretary of state’s office has mailed notices to more than 27,000 people it has identified as having moved out of state, giving them 40 days to respond or their voting status will be changed.
Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said the voters were identified through a multi-state list-sharing service as having recent voter or driver’s licenses in another state.
A total of 25 states, along with Washington, D.C., are part of that sharing service.
The mailing occurred last week.

“We will be encouraging these people to cancel their Georgia voter registrations if they have moved,” Raffensperger - rumored to be considering a bid for higher office in next year’s elections - said. “If they still live in Georgia or have returned to Georgia, these voters will be able to go online to the Online Voter Registration system, to their My Voter Page or to simply return the notice to maintain their status as ‘active’ voters.”
