Description
ATLANTA, Ga. (WALB) -Governor Brian Kemp said the state’s strong economy and thriving development make it possible for Georgia Power to freeze rates for customers for the next three years.
The governor made those comments Wednesday morning, May 21, during a news conference at the state capitol where he touted the state’s booming economy.
Kemp stated since 2019, more than 193,000 new jobs have come to Georgia, along with $90 billion investments.
“And that’s just including projects where the state played hand,” Kemp said. “It doesn’t account for all the organic growth that’s happening all across the state, including right here in our capital city of Atlanta.”
The governor also said the strong economy offered Georgians other financial benefits.
“That unprecedented growth is part of why we cut our state income tax rate at historic levels, why we’ve returned billions of dollars to hardworking Georgians through tax refunds, multiple suspensions of the state gas tax and a homestead tax exemption,” Kemp said.
Kemp added that Georgia’s strong economic standing, including reliable energy infrastructure, attracts additional industries and adds more jobs to the state.
News of Georgia Power’s plans to freeze rates came Monday when the company filed plans to extend current base rates, established in 2022, for an additional three years.
