Description

CAIRO, Ga. (WALB) - The Grady County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) has launched a new inmate mail management system aimed at keeping contraband out of the county jail.

Officials announced an agreement with TextBehind, a Maryland-based company that digitizes non-privileged inmate mail to prevent drugs, weapons, and other prohibited items from entering facilities through the mail.

The service is expected to eliminate mail-related contraband while improving safety for staff and inmates and reducing mailroom labor costs.

TextBehind currently serves more than a dozen Georgia county jails and hundreds of correctional facilities nationwide.

In addition to enhancing security, the system allows inmates to receive scanned copies of mail, photos, and documents, helping families stay connected while reducing the risks tied to physical mail.
