CAIRO, Ga. (WALB) - The Grady County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) arrested over 15 people during a road check in response to increasing criminal activity and resident complaints about out-of-county individuals allegedly bringing illegal weapons into Cairo.

The sheriff’s office conducted the proactive road check Monday, Jan. 19, following numerous complaints from residents in rural Grady County and a recent double homicide in a county north of Grady County.

“These enforcement actions were taken to deter violent crime and locate dangerous offenders,” the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies arrested David Grose, a multi-state wanted sex offender, during the road check. Grose was taken into custody.

The sheriff’s office K-9 unit also assisted in making several drug-related arrests:

• 3 felony methamphetamine arrests involving out-of-county residents
• 2 misdemeanor drug arrests
• 6 violations involving drug-related objects

Deputies also made arrests on other charges:

• 5 DUI arrests
• 5 arrests for driving with license suspended
• 2 arrests for driving without a valid license
• 6 open container violations
• 1 arrest for traveling 106 mph in a 45 mph zone
• Multiple citations for no license in possession

The sheriff’s office said it will continue to increase patrols, conduct targeted road checks and pursue criminals who threaten the safety of Grady County citizens.
