VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - Ten months ago, Raheem Cooper was on his daily route in a neighborhood when he saw an elderly woman passed out in her driveway. He jumped into action that doctors said saved her life. Now, he’s still delivering joy to her family even in the midst of difficult times.

Cooper said, “It just shows you that good things pay off in the long run. I didn’t expect this at all, so to see it go from nobody knowing to pretty much the whole world knowing is just amazing, honestly.”

On Aug. 12, 78-year-old Marie Coble took a fall, which left her with brain damage, leading to numerous surgeries and hospital visits. Now, she’s fighting stage four lung cancer. Her granddaughter Kayla Cochran says doctors have given her six months to live.

“It’s definitely been very emotional trying times, but you know with the Lord and above you know he’s watched over us so far, and we’ve turned it all over to him and the doctors,” she said.

Since their initial encounter last year, Cooper has stayed in contact with Coble’s family to get updates on her condition and stability.

He said, “It was pretty traumatic because I thought she was recovering pretty well, so it was just a shocker at first.”

Cochran said, “He’s still a part of our lives and still truly an Angel. A year ago, if he hadn’t showed up, he wouldn’t be here with us.”

Coble’s family says their main goal is to make her comfortable at home, because she wishes to be at home. Doctors say she needs 24-hour care.

Cooper said, “Hopefully she makes a safe recovery and we can find someone to help her on a day-to-day basis.”

“We’re just trying to keep her comfortable and keep her strong as we can and you know we’re just trying to stay positive at this point,” Cochran said.

Cooper is making plans to visit Coble again soon. Her family is asking for continued prayers and support.

A GoFundMe has been set up to cover Coble’s medical expenses. So far, $20 of the $5,500 goal has been raised. To donate, click here.
