ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Albany State University’s (ASU) 2025 homecoming weekend had no significant arrests related to the homecoming festivities, according to Albany Police Department (APD) Chief Deputy Wendy Luster. APD said the events were safe and family-friendly throughout the weekend.

“I am pleased to share: Over the weekend, we did not experience any significant arrests related to the Albany State homecoming festivities. The events were safe, well-attended and filled with community pride.”

APD partnered with the Dougherty County Sheriffs’ Office, the Dougherty County Police Department, the ASU Police Department, and the Georgia State Patrol to boost visibility and patrols at ASU events in the city.

The increased presence comes following a shooting at the 2024 ASU homecoming that killed one person and injured 5 others. APD and ASU began working on an updated security plan shortly after that tragedy.

While no arrests were related back to the homecoming events, GSP conducted 269 traffic stops, APD said. Police said 164 citations and 185 warnings resulted from those traffic stops.

Nine crashes and 19 DUIs occurred in Dougherty County over the weekend, officials said. Four additional people were arrested. Of those four, two were previously wanted by law enforcement, and two were arrested on drug charges.
