LEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Torren Williams is making the most of his senior year at Lee County High School, where the point guard maintains a 3.8 GPA while leading a basketball team filled with underclassmen.

Williams has played varsity basketball for four years and credits his parents for his academic success.

“It’s really with the help of my parents. They make sure I stay on top of my work, keep going what I do. And then, just, on the court, I put in a lot of hours after school, before school. I have a good balance. I’m blessed with both parents in the household. I just thank them for all my hard work,” Williams said.

The Trojans have played several games this season with a roster that includes only two seniors and many underclassmen. Williams serves as team captain and point guard, a leadership role that has challenged him to grow.

“I haven’t really been put into this position before, so I’m learning a lot as of right now. But I guess me building their trust and their trust in me— It has really gotten me to grow a little bit more,” Williams said.

Williams earned second team all-region honors last season and honorable mention during his sophomore year. He has set goals for both individual and team success this season.

“Personal goals— I’m seeking to be the Player of the Year in the region... first team. You know, I’m really striving for that. And team goals— I plan for us to be first in region,” Williams said.
