LEESBURG, Ga. (WALB) - The city of Leesburg is warning residents of a scam surrounding the Leesburg Utility Department.
According to a Facebook post, the Leesburg Police Department (LPD), someone is calling Leesburg residents claiming to be from the Utility Department.
The caller will try to solicit credit card and/or banking information over the phone, claiming “your city utility bill did not clear, and will be shut off if you don’t pay immediately.”
The post said that the call will originate from a “spoofed” number with a 229 area code.
“The city of Leesburg will not ask for your credit card or banking information over the telephone,” the post said.
