Description

LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - The Lowndes County Board of Commissioners will consider a proposed moratorium on data center development in unincorporated parts of the county next week.

Commissioners are expected to discuss the proposal during their regular session on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 5:30 p.m.

If approved, the temporary moratorium would remain in place while the county develops a comprehensive ordinance regulating data centers for future consideration by the Board of Commissioners.

County officials said the moratorium would give the county time to evaluate the potential impacts and other considerations associated with data center development.

The matter will be considered as part of the county’s public process, with commissioners continuing to review the issue before deciding whether to approve future regulations.

The meeting will be held Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at 327 North Ashley Street in Valdosta.

The proposed moratorium would apply to unincorporated Lowndes County.

WALB will continue to follow the discussion and provide updates as the county considers the proposal.
