ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A man and his dog were shot Friday, April 24, after a fight at an apartment on Owens Avenue in Albany. A witness caught the shooting on cellphone video, according to officers.

According to the Albany Police Department (APD), a suspect identified as Zephaniah Green shot a male victim in his left pointer finger, and also shot the dog named “Brownie” in his left hip. The male victim told APD the shooting stemmed from a “verbal altercation.”

Animal control came to retrieve the injured dog while the male victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

While officers were surveying the neighborhood after the shooting, a witness told an investigator that he had captured the fight and shooting on his cellphone. The officer asked him for a copy and described the video in a report:

I could hear the audio clear as day from the altercation that was happening across the street... I observed a male standing in the doorway. I could hear a male and female arguing in the yard... I observed 2 males begin arguing, and they start fighting in the yard. I observed the victim [redacted] walk back inside of the residence, and you could hear 2 gunshots. I observed [redacted] collapse at the front door... I could hear Brownie whimpering and [redacted] screaming that his finger was shot off.

The suspect accused of the shooting was identified as Zephaniah Green. Officers used the Flock camera system to locate the vehicle that Green was allegedly driving. WALB has reached out to APD to learn if Green is still wanted.
