VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - Valdosta High School senior Braeden Lampkin has been selected as the city’s first Mayor for a Day.
The city of Valdosta announced in a press release on Monday, March 16, that Lampkin will spend the day learning about government operations while engaging with city leaders and public safety officials.

Lampkin will get a behind-the-scenes look at how the city operates every day to serve Valdosta residents.
Lampkin was chosen for this role as part of Georgia Cities Week, which will kick off Friday, April 10.
The city said Lampkin is a native of Valdosta and has a 4.0 GPA across both his college and high school coursework.
Valdosta High School Principal Dr. Johnnie Marshall shared a statement about Lampkin’s accomplishments and character:
“Braeden represents the very best of Valdosta High School. His academic excellence, leadership, and commitment to personal growth make him an outstanding example for his peers. We are proud to see him recognized by the City of Valdosta and know he will represent our school and community well as the first Mayor for a Day.”
The city of Valdosta will host several events throughout the week for Georgia Cities Week, officials said.
