CAMILLA, Ga. (WALB) -The Mitchell County Eagles boys track and field team won its third consecutive state championship, joining elite programs like the New York Yankees, Chicago Bulls and Boston Celtics with three straight titles.
Mitchell County scored 68 points, finishing 16 points ahead of second-place Portal. The Eagles placed in 10 of the 12 events they entered, with seven top-three finishes.
“My mindset was to win. I wanted to win when I came up here man like we already had the talent on paper. We had it by 20 points on paper and we came out here and we executed,” D’Andre Marcus said.
Senior Darius Robinson led the team at the University of Georgia, earning four medals including two individual titles in the 110 and 300 hurdles.

“I wanna thank Coach Atkins for being with us all our 4 years and trusting in us. We trusted the process and we finished strong. Thank God,” Marcus Vicks said.
Coach Atkins said the senior class was his first group when he arrived in Camilla.
“This is my first class. When I got to Camilla, they were all freshmen, now they’re seniors and we made an amazing run on this track. I feel like we built a dynasty and it feels amazing and overwhelming at the same time knowing I did it with the first class I ever coached when I got here,” Atkins said.
The group set school records in the 4x100, 4x200, 400 and 300 hurdles while producing the program’s top 110-meter hurdlers.
“It was an amazing opportunity. The moment was kind of big for some of them, but I look at it all as preparation. We are already preparing for next year so now young guys up,” Atkins said.
