Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Brayden Burns signed with Central Georgia Tech on Friday, announcing his decision in front of Monroe Comprehensive’s High School’s senior class.

Chants of “BB” echoed in the auditorium as Burns revealed he will continue his basketball career with the Titans.

Burns chose the junior college route with hopes of transferring to a Division I program after one or two years.

“I picked Central Georgia Tech because my cousin went there. He did a lot of great things with them. He paved the way for me, he did a lot. And he showed me that I could do it. Plus, I like the coach and he loved my game,” Burns said.

Team MVP led Tornadoes to region championship

Monroe head coach Michael Hoffpauir praised his team MVP. Burns led the Tornadoes to a region championship this year while averaging a team-high 21 points per game, the most a player has scored under Hoffpauir.

“I told the coach when we talked, I said, ‘man, you’re getting a steal.’ And he said, ‘Coach, I already know.’ He’s a phenomenal player. He’s done a lot of things. And he’s an MVP for us. The coach said the same thing. He said his job is to make sure he’s the Conference Freshman of the Year this year,” Hoffpauir said.

Burns said he owes his success to God and his parents. When asked how he wants to be remembered as a Golden Tornado, he said: legendary.
