Investigators say the incident began early Wednesday, Feb. 18, in the morning when Leroy arrived in Albany from Warner Robins, Georgia, in a ride driven by Michael Gray, 44.

Now, Leroy’s mother, Kizzy Leroy, is speaking out.

“Running is not an option. I want him to turn himself in. I’ve been wanting him to turn himself in. I don’t want him to feel like he has to keep running because that’s not the answer, and I definitely don’t want anyone to hurt my son,” Leroy said.

She told WALB she never imagined she would be in this position, asking her own son to surrender to authorities.

She says she loves him, but she does not condone violence.

Investigators have not released additional details about what led up to the shooting or whether anyone was injured. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.

As officers continue searching, this mother says she is praying her son chooses to take responsibility.
