AMERICUS, Ga. — A manhunt is underway across South Georgia for two murder suspects who broke out of the Sumter County Jail Sunday night, Feb. 8.

Sumter County Sheriff Eric Bryant said the search remains active, involving multiple agencies across several counties, as they continue looking for 20-year-old Rickey Martin and 21-year-old Kentravious Holmes.

Martin is one of three men charged in a February 2025 shooting that left two people dead, including 5-year-old Peyton Roberts. Holmes is wanted in connection to the April 2025 murder of Amon Harvey in Americus.

“Most definitely be looking for both of these individuals—anybody that fit that description—contact law enforcement immediately that they are dangerous. They were in jail here on very serious charges,” Bryant said. “If you see anybody resemble them, look like them or may have any whereabouts on them, then contact law enforcement immediately, and understand those that [anyone] we find during the course of this investigation assisting or helping these individuals that escaped will be charged and brought to the fullest extent of the law as well.”

Bryant said there are limited updates from the search. Multiple agencies are working together in the effort to locate Martin and Holmes, with helicopters searching the area.

Questions remain about whether someone on the outside helped the two escape. The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said they are doing everything possible to find them.
