GEORGIA (WALB) — The National Weather Service in Tallahassee has issued a Flash Flood Warning for parts of south-central Georgia, active until 9:45 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026.

The warning impacts the following areas:

• South Central Berrien County
• Southeastern Cook County
• North Central Lowndes County

Weather Situation and Impact

At 6:52 p.m. EDT, Doppler radar indicated active thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned region. Flash flooding is currently ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

Residents should prepare for flooding in:

• Small creeks, streams, and urban areas
• Highways, streets, and underpasses
• Low-lying and poor-drainage areas

Locations expected to experience flash flooding include Adel, Hahira, Sparks, Cecil, New Lois, Massee, Cottle, Laconte, and Interstate 75 at Exit 29.

Safety Instructions

Emergency officials advise motorists and residents to follow these safety protocols:

• “Turn around, don’t drown.” Do not attempt to drive on flooded roads, as most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.
• Be highly aware of your surroundings and avoid low-lying areas.
• Report any observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement when safe to do so, requesting they relay the report to the National Weather Service.
