SYLVESTER, Ga. (WALB) —A Sylvester man has entered a guilty plea in connection to a devastating Feb. 2025 three-vehicle collision that claimed the life of a local veteran, and injured another driver.

Gary Lee Curry entered a guilty plea in Worth County for the following charges:

• Vehicular Homicide
• Driving under the influence (DUI)
• Serious injury by vehicle

Curry is currently in custody, according to Tifton Judicial Circuit District Attorney Patrick Warren.

The Fatal Crash

The deadly chain reaction collision occurred on Feb. 7, 2025, when a car driven by Curry failed to yield on Carter Road. The failure to yield initiated a three-vehicle pileup involving two motorcycles.

Roger Tillery, 74, who was riding one of the motorcycles, died from injuries sustained in the crash. Tillery was a military veteran and an active member of the Warriors of Faith Motorcycle Ministry.

A second motorcyclist injured in the crash continues to undergo recovery.

Charges and Plea

Following the crash, Georgia State Patrol officers cited Curry for multiple offenses, including:

• First-degree vehicular homicide - (Guilty Plea)
• Driving with a suspended license - (Dismissed)
• Failure to yield - (Dismissed)
• Driving under the influence (DUI) - (Guilty Plea)
• Distracted driving - (Dismissed)
• Two counts of serious injury by vehicle - (Guilty Plea)

With Curry’s guilty plea now entered, the case moves to the final stage of judicial proceedings, sentencing.

According to DA Warren, a Judge could sentence Curry to the maximum of 31 years in prison. Each charge could carry the following sentence:

• Driving under the influence (DUI) - Misdemeanor: Up to a year
• Serious injury by vehicle - Felony: One to 15 years
• Vehicular homicide - Felony: One to 15 years

Sentencing is set for later this week.
