ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - With the negative perception of Albany’s East side, some good news is on the horizon for those looking for affordable housing.
The affordable housing will be open to low-income, homeless veterans, and senior citizens. Ward 1 Commissioner Jon Howard said that after hearing the issues of housing from citizens, they were able to obtain a developer to help those who are either on a fixed income or have little to no income get a place to stay.
“Not only this housing project that is going in, but there are also several other mobile home trailer park projects for senior citizens. And by this time next year, if the weather permits, we should have over 200-plus housing [units] in East Albany, and that would be the largest thing done in my ward for the last 30-plus years,” Howard said.
The housing project will be completed by December 2025. Howard said applications will be accepted in the upcoming months, and rent will be based on the state average, which is currently about $900.
