VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) - A soft lockdown at Valdosta State University was lifted Wednesday afternoon after an active shooter threat prompted the university to go under lockdown earlier that day, according to the university.
The university announced on social media just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday that operations have returned to normal.
The normal operations at VSU come after the university’s campus alert system notified students and staff around 12:45 p.m. that a soft lockdown was being launched due to “a potential threat to campus.”
The lockdown was initiated after someone called the university and said they would be arriving on campus to shoot, VSU Police Department told WCTV in a phone call just after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Those on campus were advised to lock all exterior doors and to remain indoors until the lockdown is lifted, according to the alert.
About 15 minutes later, WCTV was told by VSU Communications Specialist Jessica Pope that there was no evidence of an active shooter.
