Description
PEARSON, Ga. (WALB) – The City of Pearson has officially turned control of its water and sewer system over to Atkinson County, a move aimed at securing much-needed state funding for infrastructure repairs.
The takeover, approved by the Pearson City Council, is effective immediately. County officials say the funding will be used to restore wells, upgrade pump stations, and ensure residents have access to safe, reliable drinking water.
City Attorney Jerome Adams said the proposal was in the city’s best interest and explained the details behind the decision.
WALB is working to learn more about the timeline for repairs and how state funding will be allocated. County and state leaders are expected to share updates on the next steps.
WALB’s Taylor Lewis will have continuing coverage on what this means for Pearson residents moving forward.
