PELHAM, Ga. (WALB) - Law enforcement officials in Pelham are searching for a man they say struck a woman with a handgun on May 7, according to the Pelham Police Department (PPD).

PPD said several women were involved in a physical altercation at around 8:25 p.m. near Hollingsworth Street. During the altercation, Jayden West, the suspect PPD is looking for, approached the group and struck one of the women in the head with a handgun, officials said.

According to the PPD, West was out on bond from a previous assault involving a firearm. They said West fled the scene after striking the woman.

The woman West stuck was treated at Mitchell County Hospital and has since been released, according to police.

Police said later on the same night, gunshots were fired on Welch Street, and an apartment belonging to “a known associate of Jayden West” was struck. PPD said no injuries were reported, and it is unknown if these two incidents were related.
