SYLVESTER, Ga. (WALB) - The city of Sylvester’s Mayor and Council have tentatively adopted a millage rate, which will require an increase in property taxes of 66.28%, officials announced on Thursday, Nov. 20.

• Nov. 20
  • 10 a.m.
  • Sylvester City Hall: 101 North Main Street
• Dec. 1
  • 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Sylvester City Hall: 101 North Main Street

Residents of Sylvester can expect a tentative tax increase of 6.177 mills, which is a rollback of 2.202 mills. Without this tentative tax increase, the mileage rate will not exceed 8.379 mills.

The tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $100,000 is approximately an $88 increase, and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $300,000 is approximately a $264 increase.
