VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - A resident at The Gables apartment complex in Valdosta said she is tired of living in what she calls “unsafe conditions.”

The resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said she wants the complex to address issues she believes put families at risk—including mold, pest problems and windows and doors that do not function properly.

The Gables is located at 1415 North St. Augustine Road in Valdosta.

“I just hope something can be done,” the resident said.

Allegations of mold, safety hazards and pests

The resident, who has multiple family members at the complex, said mold is widespread. The resident also described what they said are safety issues with windows and doors.

“Like, their sliding doors don’t close,” the resident said. “The windows are a safety hazard.”

The resident also said some of the units have outdated or broken appliances, including stoves and refrigerators.

The resident said the problems have persisted for nearly three years.

What residents want

The resident said they want repairs made and residents protected from penalties if they choose to move.

“Some repairs... or have these people move, like, with no penalties against them,” the resident said.

WALB called The Gables on Wednesday and was told to call back when a community manager is available.
