Description

FITZGERALD, Ga. (WALB) — Peaceful Manor Retirement Home in Albany got an 80 on its food service inspection on Tuesday, July 7.

The retirement home received a total of 8 infractions, one of which was corrected on-site; four are to be corrected by 7/9/26, two by 7/10/26, and one by 7/31/26.

WALB spoke with the owner of Peaceful Manor Retirement Home, and he explained that they are actively complying with the Department of Public Health to correct all of the violations.

Regarding the grits stored in the butter container, he said, “The butter and grits container was thrown out after the residents finished their breakfast.”

Tastees Kitchen Kreations in Fitzgerald is off to a strong start. Owner Equilla Johnson said the food truck earned a perfect 100 on its health inspection.

Equilla said Tastees Kitchen Kreations has only been open about a month, after launching June 6.

The food truck currently has one location in Fitzgerald.

Equilla said the truck is set up at Tractor Supply/Farmer’s Furniture, 262 Osceola Highway in Fitzgerald.

Hours shared during the interview:

  • Sunday: 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Saturday: 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. (or until sold out)
  • Tuesday: 1 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Equilla said the idea grew out of her love for cooking—and encouragement from others.

“I started posting food over social media and people were like, ‘Oh, we want to try your food,’” she said. “They’ll be like, ‘You need to open up a restaurant… or something.’ So that kind of inspired me… and open the truck.”

Equilla said she didn’t go into the inspection expecting a perfect score, but focused on following established food safety standards.

“I try to follow proper protocol with everything that we do, follow all of the guidelines that the health department has issued, along with the Serve Safe guidelines,” she said.

Equilla said customers have especially been ordering the truck’s egg rolls, including several specialty options:

  • Soul food egg roll (collard greens, yams, baked mac and cheese)
  • Jerk seafood egg roll (described as a top seller)
  • Bayou egg roll (New Orleans-inspired with crawfish, peppers, cheeses)
  • Dessert egg roll: pecan pie cheesecake

She also mentioned seafood rice as another popular menu item.

Aquila said many of the items come from experimenting in the kitchen and listening to feedback.

“It’s just a bunch of brainstorming and… trying different stuff in the kitchen and see what goes well together,” she said.

Equilla said the team often sells out before closing time.

“We start in the morning… start cooking… and then we sell out way before it’s time for us to close most days,” she said.

Looking ahead, she said she plans to expand to more events and into the Southeast—likely requiring a bigger truck and more staff.
