Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - After a mainly dry Saturday across South Georgia, we may be pressing our luck on that dry weather continuing into Sunday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will re-enter the picture, but they will provide some welcome relief from temperatures that will run a couple of degrees higher than levels seen today. Highs will be in the mid to upper 90s tomorrow through the first of the week, with heat index values during the afternoon and early evening in the 100-106 range throughout the area.

The heat begins to abate some later this week as shower and thunderstorm chances increase throughout the area. The enhanced rain chances will come courtesy of a low pressure system that will develop nearby. Whether or not that low acquires tropical characteristics remains to be seen; the National Hurricane Center has painted the northern and northeastern Gulf with a 20% chance of tropical development in the next seven days. Any development should be very slow, and we’re not expecting a strong tropical cyclone to emerge from the disturbance. Regardless of the final outcome being a tropical depression, tropical storm, or just a plain ol’ low pressure area, whatever develops will act to increase the rain chances across South Georgia beginning as early as Wednesday and especially into the latter part of the week into the weekend. Stay with your WALB First Alert Weather team throughout the week on the latest forecasts for any possible tropical activity.
