ATLANTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Southeastern Conference has suspended referee Ken Williamson for the remainder of the 2025 season after his crew’s performance in Georgia’s 20-10 win at Auburn on Oct. 11, according to multiple reports.
Yellowhammer News first reported the suspension on Wednesday.
The controversial call with the most impact from this game came late in the first half, when Auburn, up 10-0, looked to extend its lead with a quarterback sneak on third-and-goal from the Georgia 1.
As quarterback Jackson Arnold reached for the end zone, UGA linebacker Raylen Wilson punched the ball from Arnold’s grasp, leading to a UGA recovery and a lengthy review that was ultimately upheld.
UGA went on to score 20 unanswered points en route to a win at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Williamson’s crew also missed a targeting call against Auburn cornerback Kayin Lee as the first half came to a close. Upon further review, Lee was ejected from the game for a helmet-to-helmet hit.
But perhaps the most controversial moment in this game came in the fourth quarter, when UGA head coach Kirby Smart appeared to call a timeout, a moment that has generated buzz on social media for its peculiarity.
The Bulldogs led 13-0 when Smart ran up to the side judge and supposedly clapped his hands in an attempt to create a false start for the offense. The broadcast showed the replay, and Smart was making what looked like a timeout signal with his hands, so Smart and the Bulldogs were able to keep the timeout anyways.
