Description

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - Second Harvest of South Georgia announced on Saturday morning that they are at capacity.

Dexter Sharper, state representative for Valdosta District 177, posted on Facebook that 2,000 cars were wrapped around Valdosta High School during Saturday’s food distribution event. He said this is evidence that a crisis has “lived quietly in our neighborhoods for years.”

“With the cuts to SNAP benefits and the rise in food prices, many families are now facing a level of anxiety and panic they’ve never felt before especially as we move closer to the holidays. Parents are choosing between groceries and gas. Seniors are stretching one meal into two. Working families are doing everything “right” and still coming up short."

Sharper said that LAMP and Kings United will be providing a hot, homecooked meal on Wednesday, Nov. 26. Additionally, a fifth location will be added to allow for 2,500 people to be fed in one day.
