JONES COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) — Two siblings were sentenced for a 2021 shooting that left a 20-year-old woman dead in Gordon.
According to the Jones County Sheriff's Office (JCSO), on Saturday, Jeremy Xavier Butts pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, and his sister Cierra Simone Butts pleaded guilty to misdemeanor obstruction of an officer for their involvement in the death of Jada Simmons in May 2021.
JCSO says that in the early morning hours of May 16, Ms. Butts and several other women got into an argument at a party on Nitrogen Road. Jones County Sheriff Butch Reese previously told WGXA that Milledgeville's Piru street gang organized the party.
After the altercation, Jeremy Butts fired multiple shots at and into the home, with one of the bullets fatally striking Simmons, a 20-year-old mother from Milledgeville.

JCSO added that after the shooting, Cierra bought her brother a plane ticket to El Paso, Texas, and drove him to the airport. However, on May 18, Jeremy was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service and has been in custody in Jones County ever since. The next day, Cierra Butts turned herself in to the authorities.
Documents from Jones County Superior Court obtained by WGXA in August 2021 showed that Jeremy Butts was originally indicted on one count of felony murder and seven counts of aggravated assault, while his sister was indicted on one count of hindering the apprehension of a criminal.
After taking a plea deal, Jermery was sentenced to 15 years in prison, followed by five years on probation, and Cierra was sentenced to 12 months on probation and six months to be served in the Jones County Jail.
