MOULTRIE, Ga. (WALB) — Downtown Moultrie was packed this weekend as people from across Georgia gathered for the 22nd annual Spring Fling.

Vendors, food trucks and families filled the streets for a day of activities and a boost to local businesses.

Cathy Duff, a vendor who drove nearly two hours from Valdosta, said the event was worth the trip.

“It is one of the biggest in Moultrie that they have around this time of year,” Duff said. “It’s a great, great crowd. Possibility is endless.”

Hundreds of local vendors and food trucks set up at the spring fling. The event also featured games, rock climbing stations and inflatables for kids.

The Backyard BBQ festival ran alongside the main event, with cooks from around the community submitting brisket, ribs and chicken for competition.

Xavier Isagba, a community member, said the festival brought people together.

“It’s very good. It’s everything. Kids love it. Family loves it,” Isagba said. “Brings everybody together. And that’s what we need.”

Amy Johnson, president of the Moultrie-Colquitt County Development Authority, said the spring fling generates foot traffic for local businesses.

“All of these people that come to this festival, whether it’s a food truck or our restaurants that are open, they’re all small businesses,” Johnson said. “This type of event certainly benefits them. It’s actually a domino effect. It helps the small business, it helps the economy and it helps make memories in our community.”

Even “The Voice” star JW Griffin showed out for the event, performing for his hometown crowd by debuting a brand new original song.

The spring fling helped people from across Georgia experience what downtown Moultrie has to offer while boosting economic growth and development for the city.
