In the interview, Alexander asked Embert directly whether she killed her husband.
“You were the only other person there, Susan. Did you shoot your husband and then stage the room to look like a suicide?” Alexander asked.
“No, I didn’t,” Embert replied.
Embert denies poisoning allegations
Alexander also pressed Embert on allegations from her first trial that she had been poisoning Jake Embert for a period of time before he was found dead from a gunshot wound.
“Did you poison Jake Embert?” Alexander asked.
“No, I did not,” Susan Embert replied. “I wouldn’t have poisoned someone I loved. I wouldn’t poison anybody. We all ate the same food.”
Three trials, one conviction
Susan Embert was tried for murder three times. Her second trial ended in a mistrial after Dougherty County prosecution Michael Fowler mentioned the word “anti-freeze” — significant because the prosecution in her first trial alleged she had been poisoning Jake Embert with DEET and triethylene glycol.
Judge Victoria Johnson ruled that evidence from the first trial related to the alleged poisoning would not be allowed in subsequent trials, calling it “speculative” and “not based on reliable principles or methods.”

Family accusations addressed
Alexander also asked Embert about claims made by Jake Embert’s family.
“You have repeatedly said that a lot of people are lying about you — from Jake’s family to his sister, other people. How is it that so many people are lying about you?” Alexander asked.
“I don’t know why they are lying about me. They don’t even know me enough to lie about me,” Embert said.
