TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - A Tallahassee family lost their home after a trio of tornadoes ripped through Leon County on May 10.
After a rough year, the family is thankful to be alive in a new home they found just two months ago.
Jen Jacques, a mom of three, lost everything in the tornadoes, including her home and vehicle, which were destroyed by a massive tree. She said it’s a day her family will never forget.

“I remember going to my knees in full tears, just going ‘Oh my God, my house is gone,’” Jacques said.

At the time of the severe weather, the mother said she was in Texas for work. However, Jacques said she rushed home after receiving a call from her mother, Maryann, about the severe weather, who was with Jacques’ kids at the time.
“That was the most terrifying phone call to get at 7 in the morning of your mother screaming and in complete hysterics, ‘Your house is destroyed,’” Jacques said.

Though the family has their own space again, Jacques said they’re carrying the painful memories each day.
The mother said she’s heading to St. Augustine with her kids to relax for Mother’s Day, a special gift the whole family deserves after the Mother’s Day weekend last year was impacted.
“Last year for Mother’s Day, going through all of this was very tough. This year, I hope to just relax with my kids,” Jacques said.
