Description
DOUGHERTY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — For the first time since 2007, Dougherty County residents received a property assessment.
Following the results, many were upset with how their property was evaluated. For a handful of people, their property value increased drastically.
Residents had 45 days to appeal their assessment if they chose to. The deadline to do so was yesterday, Oct. 5.
Two members of the Dougherty County Tax Payers Association are concerned with the way the Board of Assessors conducted the assessments.
“Larry Thomas, other commissioners, and other tax assessors- their answer that they always went back to was ‘Appeal, appeal.’ I believe if things were done right the first time, then there wouldn’t be over 5,000 appeals submitted or however many that number is currently,” said Titus Paine, one of the members of the Association.
