SOUTH GEORGIA (WALB) - A speeding stop turned into a pursuit Sunday morning after a driver refused to stop for a Georgia State Patrol Trooper on GA 1.

According to Georgia State Patrol, the incident happened April 26, 2026, around 7:31 a.m., when a Trooper clocked a black Volkswagen traveling south at 88 mph in a 65 mph zone. Officials say the driver initially slowed down but then accelerated, refusing to pull over and initiating a chase.

During the pursuit, the Trooper pulled alongside the vehicle and motioned for the driver to stop, but the driver continued fleeing. Authorities say the Trooper then performed a PIT maneuver, causing the Volkswagen to come to rest in the median.

The driver was taken into custody at the scene. Both passengers were also arrested on various charges.

No injuries were reported.
