ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Coca-Cola has agreed to use real cane sugar in beverages sold within the U.S., according to President Donald Trump.
Trump said leaders of the Atlanta-based company agreed to change the recipe for Coke in the U.S. after discussions with him.
“I have been speaking to Coca-Cola about using REAL Cane Sugar in Coke in the United States, and they have agreed to do so,” Trump said in a social media post Wednesday. “I’d like to thank all of those in authority at Coca-Cola. This will be a very good move by them — You’ll see. It’s just better!”

Coca-Cola sold in the U.S. is typically sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup, while Coke sold in other countries uses cane sugar.
The company used cane sugar in its U.S. products until the early 1980s before switching to corn syrup.
Coca‑Cola hasn’t yet confirmed the change announced by Trump, but a company spokesperson sent Atlanta News First the following statement: “We appreciate President Trump’s enthusiasm for our iconic Coca‑Cola brand. More details on new innovative offerings within our Coca‑Cola product range will be shared soon."
Trump’s fondness for Diet Coke, which uses artificial sweeteners, is well-documented.
