Undocumented trucker accused in fatal Florida Turnpike crash (WEAR)
PENSACOLA, Fla. (WEAR) — The illegal immigrant accused of driving a truck that caused a fatal crash on the Florida Turnpike is now back in the state to face justice.
Suspect 28-year-old Harjinder Singh allegedly made an illegal U-turn on the Florida Turnpike near Fort Pierce that led to a collision, causing the death of three South Floridians.
Singh, who allegedly entered the U.S. illegally in 2018, now faces three counts of vehicular homicide and is being held on an ICE detainer, according to authorities. If he's convicted, he could face up to 45 years in prison.
His extradition mission follows a directive from Gov. Ron DeSantis, who called the Aug. 12 deadly crash "a total disaster and vowed to "throw the book at him."
Instead of U.S. Marshals handling the transfer, Florida Lt. Gov. Jay Collins personally made the trip and escorted Singh on the state jet from California to Florida.
Singh landed at the Pensacola International Airport around 5 p.m. The final flight is headed to Tallahassee.
