DOUGLAS, Ga. (WALB) — Five adults are dead after an apparent murder-suicide in Douglas, according to police.

Douglas Police Chief Brandon Pruitt said officers and Coffee County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of an active shooter at a home on Robin Lane in the Touchton Woods neighborhood at about 11:09 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9. The initial emergency call was placed by one of the victims.

Officers found four adults dead inside the home, Pruitt said. A fifth adult was taken to Coffee Regional Medical Center and later died.

Investigators believe the five people were immediate family members who lived together in the home. Police have not released their identities, saying they are allowing time for family notifications and investigative procedures. The bodies will be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for autopsies.

Police said there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains active, and officials have not released further details.
