VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - A Valdosta man is facing multiple felony charges after narcotics detectives seized nearly 4,000 grams of marijuana, several firearms, and other drug-related items during a search warrant investigation, according to the Valdosta Police Department (VPD).

According to VPD, on May 14, detectives with the department’s Narcotics Unit investigated alleged narcotics sales at a home in the 1100 block of Langdale Drive. During the investigation, detectives made contact with 27-year-old Antwan Lavictor Mathis, who lived at the residence.

The suspect was arrested without incident and transported to the Lowndes County Jail.

Police said detectives executed a search warrant at the home and recovered more than 3,900 grams of marijuana, three firearms, and tools commonly associated with narcotics sales. Investigators also discovered that one of the firearms had been reported stolen.

Mathis was arrested without incident and transported to the Lowndes County Jail.

He faces several charges, including:

  • Three counts of possession of a firearm by a subject on first offender status;
  • Theft by receiving stolen property (firearm);
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony;
  • Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute; and
  • Possession of drug-related items.

“This is another great job by our Narcotics Unit,” said Valdosta Police Chief Leslie Manahan. “Not only did they seize a quantity of marijuana, but they took three firearms out of the hands of a convicted felon who should not be in possession of a firearm.”

The investigation remains ongoing, stay with us for more updates.
