SEATTLE (KOMO) — The King County Prosecutor's Office has released video footage of a shooting at Seattle's waterfront that prosecutors allege happened after a fight over accusations of "stolen valor."
The incident happened on July 31 near 1101 Alaskan Way in downtown Seattle.

According to charges filed on Aug 5., Gregory William Timm, 32, claimed the victim, a 68-year-old man in a wheelchair, was pretending to be a member of the military in public.
"The defendant approached the victim, who was in a wheelchair on the boardwalk, near Starbucks, and he demanded the victim provide identification to prove his military status," Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Elaine Lee wrote in charging documents. "As the victim was taking out his wallet, the defendant removed a military patch from the victim's belongings. This caused the victim to arm himself with a knife."
Investigators said Timm continued to demand the victim's military ID, and the victim took out an airsoft gun from a holster.
"Before the victim could even do anything with it, the defendant pulled out his handgun, pointed it at the victim, and shot him point blank in the chest," Lee wrote.
"Timm extends his right arm, takes a couple of steps back, and fires one round from the pistol," a police report states.
Timm returned the gun to his bag and waited for the police with his hands in the air above his head, according to the charges.
The video footage, which was provided to KOMO News by the prosecutor's office via a public disclosure request, appears to support this sequence of events.
In the footage, shot from two different angles by different witnesses, Timm is seen demanding to see a military ID and moving around the victim in an agitated way. In the second video, Timm can be seen very clearly taking out a handgun, raising it, and shooting the victim in the chest as passersby scream and run.

Timm is then seen with his hands on his head as police officers pat him down.
Timm, the alleged shooter, was arrested by officers at the scene. During and initial court hearing, his defense attorney told the judge that because the victim first pulled a knife, Timm would be claiming self-defense.
The last public update on the victim was that he was in serious but stable condition.
Kelsey Reidt, who works along the waterfront, said she sees the man who was shot nearly every day.
“He's a regular here,” Reidt said. “He's usually playing music and bringing a good vibe to the waterfront."
Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell spoke to KOMO News about the waterfront situation when it happened.
“This was a targeted incident between two individuals, and so we will continue to make sure our police are down here and security is down here,” the mayor said. “We are getting about five guns off the street a day - over 2,000 a year - so we're doing everything we can. We hope that this is just an outlier because we want everyone to be safe."
